1415818 Cyclopropane derivatives ZOECON CORP 5 April 1974 [13 April 1973 (2) 4 June 1973 23 Aug 1973 19 Nov 1973] 15145/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of formula (A) , (B) and Formula (C) in which X is -O- or -S-; R is C 10 -C 22 alkyl, C 2 -C 22 alkenyl, C 10 -C 22 alkynyl, or cycloalkyl having 4-6 ring carbon atoms; R<SP>1</SP> is C 1 -C 6 alkylene; A is alkylene, alkenylene or alkynylene of up to 20 carbon atoms, cycloalkylene having 4-6 ring carbon atoms and optionally substituted by one or two alkyl or alkoxy groups, or arylene of 6-20 carbon atoms optionally substituted by one or two alkyl, halogen or nitro groups; A<SP>1</SP> is cycloalkylene having 4-6 ring carbon atoms and optionally substituted by one or two alkyl or alkoxy groups, or C 6 -C 20 arylene groups optionally substituted by one or two alkyl, halogen or nitro groups; n is 0-4 and p is 0 or 1, with the proviso that when A<SP>1</SP> is 1,4-phenylene, p is one. The esters of Formulae (A) and (B) are prepared by heating the appropriate mono- or di-hydric alcohol, i.e. ROH or HO-(R<SP>1</SP>) p A-(R<SP>1</SP>) p OH with at least one or two molar equivalents, respectively of an acid of formula or an acid halide thereof. Similarly the thioesters are made by acting an acid halide of formula in which X<SP>1</SP> is Cl or Br with the corresponding mercaptan. The esters and thioesters of Formula (C) are prepared by reacting an acid of formula or an acid halide thereof with at least 2 molar equivalents of cyclopropanemethyl alcohol or cyclopropanemethyl hydrosulphide; alternatively the esters may be prepared by esterification of a corresponding alkyl ester with the lithium salt of propanemethyl alcohol or esterification with cyclopropanemethyl alcohol and an acid catalyst. Numerous examples are given. The compounds of Formulae (A), (B) and (C) given above are used as active ingredients in pesticidal compositions.
