1414422 Aromatic polymers IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 2 May 1974 [25 May 1973 (2) 22 June 1973 12 Oct 1973 20 Dec 1973 14 March 1974] 56201/74 56202/74 56203/74 56204/74 56205/74 and 56206/74 Divided out of 1414421 Heading C3R A polymer comprising 95 to 75 mole per cent of units of formula and 5 to 25 mole per cent of units of formula has a reduced viscosity of 0À8 to 3À0 and absorbance at 550 nm. using a 10 mm. cell of less than 0À35, both measured at 25‹ C. on a solution of the polymer in concentrated sulphuric acid containing 1 gm. of polymer in 100 cm<SP>3</SP> of solution. The polymers may be prepared by reacting salts of suitable bisphenols with suitable dihalo compounds in the presence of aromatic sulphones as described in Specification 1,414,421. In examples are prepared by reacting the dipotassium salt of bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl) ketone with mixtures of bis-(4-chlorophenyl) ketone and bis-(4-chlorophenyl) sulphone.
