Abstract
1414112 Measuring fluid mass flow-rate electrically TYLAN CORP 14 Jan 1974 [23 July 1973] 01593/74 Heading G1N A fluid mass flow-rate meter includes a conduit 14 two resistive sensing coils 22, 24 wound around the conduit external surface and heated by current from D.C. supply 30, which coils are connected in a bridge circuit to detect the temperature difference therebetween, and are thermally insulated by open cell synthetic polymer foam material 37 encasing the coils. Suitable materials are foamed polystyrene, polyurethane foam, foamed polyethylene or foamed polypropylene. It is stated that the foam material encasing the coils reduces the error due to convection currents when the coils are tilted out of the horizontal.
