1413800 Test for viral disease BECKMAN INSTRUMENTS Inc 6 Dec 1972 8348/74 Divided out of 1413799 Heading G1B A serological diagnostic test for a viral disease comprises bringing an aliquot of human blood serum suspected of containing antibodies to the virus into contact with a specific viral antigen, then adding to the mixture a serological reagent free of haemoglobin and agglutinative with the specific viral antigen, for example the "Zichis antigen" of Specification 1413799, and observing the result, a positive test being indicated by the absence of agglutination. In a similar test, a virus isolated from a patient is brought into contact with a serum known to contain antibodies to a specific virus, a serological reagent as above but agglutinative with the isolated virus is added and the result is observed.
