Abstract
1413745 Gyrocompass TOKYO KEIKI K K 9 Feb 1973 [12 Feb 1972] 6623/73 Heading G1C [Also in Division G3] A control system operating on an object which is subjected to periodic motion includes electrical means including an amplifier which makes the system unresponsive to motion having a period much greater than the natural period of the object. As shown, the invention is applied to a gyrocompass. Blocks 21 and 22 represent the vertical and horizontal axes respectively of the gyro. An input torque at P1 produces an inclination e(S) at P2 and an input P3 produces an azimuth angle Ï(S) at P4. The invention comprises the control loop 252 having the transfer function shown, in which Á is the gain, T is a time constant selected to produce the desired result and S is the Laplace operator. Alternative circuits for 25 2 are described Figs.7A to 7C (not shown); they comprise operational amplifiers with RC feedback and a method of selecting suitable component values is discussed mathematically. Block 23 represents a north seeking device (not described) and 24 the torque about the vertical axis due to the rotation of the earth; the symbols represent the angular velocity of the earth and the instant latitude of the gyro. A term is added at 27 corresponding to the component of angular velocity of the earth about the vertical axis and another at 26 represents a torque about the horizontal axis produced by gravity on the unbalance of the gyro in the N-S direction. The invention is said to eliminate constant errors which occur in a purely proportional control system and arise due to temperature effects.
