Abstract

1413506 Brake indicators COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 25 June 1973 [30 June 1972] 30705/72 Heading F2E [Also in Division G1] A mining machine has a brake drum 4 and fluid coupling 3 connecting a drive motor 1 to a gear-box 2. The brake drum is acted upon by a brake connected to two brake posts 5, 6. Fitted adjacent to the posts is a carrier plate 7 carrying a fibre optic pick-up unit 8, 9 of an optical monitoring device (see Division G1). The device determines whether both posts have moved from an "on" to an "off" position or vice-versa, or not.
