Abstract
1413121 Cement composition IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 18 Dec 1972 [3 Jan 1972] 53/72 Heading C1H [Also in Division C3] A curable composition comprises a hydraulic cement, a filler, water, an organic polyisocyanate and an isocyanate-reactive watersoluble polymer in an amount sufficient to ensure the composition remains compatible with and dispersable by water until the composition has cured to the point of initial set. Cements.-Extensive lists are, given and include natural, synthetic and calcium sulphate cements. Fillers.-The filler may be sand, gravel, fly ash, expanded clay, foamed slag, mica, chalk, talc, clays, asbestine, barytes, silica, slate calcined china clay, blue flints, glass, nylon, polyvinyl chloride, vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymers, urea/formaldehyde polymers, phenol/formaldehyde polymers, melamine/ formaldehyde polymers, acetal polymers and copolymers, acrylic polymers and copolymers, acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene terpolymers, cellulose acetate, cellulose acetate butyrate, polycarbonates, polyethylene terephthalates, polystyrenes, polyurethanes, polyethylenes, polypropylenes, sawdust, wood chips, pumice, vermiculite, asbestos, glass fibres, cotton, wool, polyamide fibre, polyester fibre, and polyacrylonitrile fibres. Polyisocyanates.-They may be a simple polyisocyanate or an isocyanate terminated prepolymer obtained by reacting excess simple polyisocyanate with a hydroxyl terminated polyether, polyester or polyesteramide with a coal tar pitch containing isocyanate reactive groups. The simple polyisocyanates listed include aliphatic, aromatic and cycloaliphatic polyisocyanates, triisocyanates, reaction products of excess diisocyanates with various polyols or with reaction products of the polyols with ethylene oxide or propylene oxide, uretedione dimers, various isocyanurate polymers of diisocyanates, biuret polyisocyanates and mixtures of the above together with mixtures obtained by the phosgenation of the mixed polyamines obtained by reacting formaldehyde with aromatic amines. Isocyanate reactive water soluble polymers.- These include cellulose derivatives, polyvinyl alcohols, polyoxyalkylene glycols, condensation products or prepolymers of formaldehyde with melamine, urea, amides, carbamates, urons, ureins, ureides, imidatoledinones, pyrimidinones and triatinones, the C 1 -C 3 alkyl ethers of such condensation products, polyvinyl pyriolidone and addition products of ethylene oxide with fatty alcohols and alkyl phenols. Other composition constituents.-These may include other isocyanate reactive organic compounds, non-isocyanate reactive (as well as isocyanate reactive) compounds containing at least one epoxy group per molecule, solvents inert to isocyanate groups, other organic liquids, bitumens, coal tar pitches, compounds minimising foaming and catalysts for the reaction between isocyanate and hydroxyl groups. Listed isocyanate reactive compounds include the shown hydroxy terminated polyethers, polyesters and polyesteramides (2-6 C) polyhydric alcohols, and products thereof with ethylene oxide or propylene oxide, aminoalcohols, polyamines, epoxy resins, drying oil and non-drying oil modified alkyd resins, castor oil, hydrogenated castor oil, urethane oils, urethane alkyds and resin produced by the high temperature reaction of castor oil with a complex resin (produced from natural resin, glycerol and resol resin), monohydric alcohols (e.g. saturated, unsaturated and polyether alcohols. Suitable epoxy compounds (both isocyanate reactive and non-isocyanate reactive) are extensively listed. Suitable solvents include esters, ketones, hydrocarbons, and chlorinated hydrocarbons. Pine oil and various alkyl and aryl phthalates and phosphates may be present as other organic liquids. Exemplified compounds minimizing foaming include various basic compounds of Groups I to IV elements. Listed catalysts include dibutyl tin dilaurate, tetrabutyl titanate, zinc octoate, zinc naphthenate, stannous octoate, SuCl 4 , FeCl 3 , lead octoate, potassium oleate, cobalt 2-ethylhexoate, N,N-dimethylcyclohexylamine, N,N<SP>1</SP> - dimethylbentylamine, N - ethylmorpholine, 1,4 - diatribicyclo-2,2,2- octane, 4 - dimethylaminopyridine, oxypropylated triethanolamines, # - diethylaminoethanol and N,N,N<SP>1</SP>,N<SP>1</SP> - tetrakis(2 - hydroxypropyl)ethylenediamine. Examples.-These illustrate many compositions containing Portland cement and sand and/or flint.
