Abstract

1412252 Semipermeable membranes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 8 Jan 1973 [12 Jan 1972] 1436/72 Heading B5B [Also in Division C3] Semipermeable membranes are prepared from a polymer of at least ethylenically unsaturated monomer, the membranes having a liquid water permeability coefficient (as defined) of 10<SP>-16</SP> cm.<SP>2</SP> to 10<SP>-9</SP> cm.<SP>2</SP>. The exemplified membrane is made from a copolymer of hydroxyethyl methacrylate and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate and is obtained by casting a solution of the monomers on to a surface so cold that the solution freezes, irradiating it with a mercury vapour lamp and then immersing it in water to remove the solvent.
