Abstract

1412155 Hydrogenation/reforming catalyst INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE 14 May 1973 [15 May 1972] 22854/73 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] A supported hydrocarbon conversion or hydrogenation catalyst is formed by: (i) preparing a homogeneous solution by admixing, at a temperature higher than 100‹C, in a solvent, a salt of a metal of atomic number 22-29, 40-47, 72-79 or 90-92 (or a lewis base coordinate of such a salt) and an inorganic or organometallic reducing agent, the metal component of which is a member of groups Ia, IIa, IIb or IIIb of the periodic table; and, (ii) impregnating a solid carrier with the solution at a temperature above 150‹C. Specified carriers are alumina, silica, titania, zirconia, magnesia and thoria. The carriers should be precalcined for removal of water. The reducing agents specified are alkali metal alkyls, aryls, hydrides, mixed hydrides with boron and aluminium or alkoxyanalates and magnesium, zinc or aluminium trihydrocarbyls. The solvent used in the first step is suitably organic. The Examples describe alumina-impregnated with solutions formed by reacting an alkyl aluminium compound with salts of nickel, cobalt, iron, molybdenum, tungsten, ruthenium, palladium, platinum and silica impregnated with solutions formed by reacting an alkyl aluminium compound with salts of nickel or cobalt.
