Abstract
1412134 Controlling lifts PROJECT & DESIGN CO (REDCAR) Ltd 14 Jan 1974 [19 Oct 1972] 48107/72 Heading B8L A system for controlling the starting and stopping of a lift movable along a track associated with stairs, wherein oscillating electromagnetic flux signals emitted from an emitter coil on the lift, are received by a detector extending along the track, and are amplified to control the lift motor. The detector is terminated adjacent the ends of the track causing automatic cut off of signal, and hence motor, at the track limits. The control signals for up and down movements of the lift are isolated from each other, either by having two spaced emitter and detector arrangements, or by having one detector with two emitters of different frequency or polarity signals, or by having one emitter capable of emitting signals of different frequency or polarity, in conjunction with two detectors. The emitting of signals is controlled by a manually operated switch or switches on the lift, the signals ceasing as the switch or switches are released. Upon termination of the signals, a D.C. injection braking system is automatically operated within the electric lift motor. The lift is raised and lowered by a cable wound on a drum driven by the motor through a worm reduction gear-box, which worm acts as a brake once the motor has been stopped.
