Abstract

1412111 Vulvar compress R ALEMANY 13 Sept 1972 [17 Sept 1971] 42535/72 Heading A5R A vulvar compress of rectangular or oval oblong shape comprises a continuous oblong support sheet (39 or 39a) bounded by a rim 21 of absorbent material and a lining 37 on the support sheet, the lining being adapted to match the anatomical contours. As shown, the lining 37 is a gauze pad optionally impregnated with medicament and the compress includes a plastics support (39) giving shape to the pad. The compress may also include a whale-bone reinforcing element 40. As in Figures 10-12 (not shown), the compress, having gauze (23) and medicament (24), includes a gynaecological ovule and the whole is provided (Figure 10) as a sealed bag constituted by the support sheet before use. This latter compress may include a deformable apertured guide element (27) used in the insertion of the ovule, the element fitting around and gripping the support sheet and ovule and being able to the deformed so as to allow the release of the ovule (Figure 11) into the patient. The Specification also discloses gynaecological devices (Figures 1-9, not shown) not forming part of the invention and which comprise a tampon (2), or medicament (14) in a cannula (13), enclosed in a sealed bag (1), the tampon or medicament being applied using an apertured guide element (7 or 15) in the manner described above.
