Abstract
1411878 Temperature responsive actuating elements; pressure indicators DANFOSS AS 27 Feb 1973 [4 March 1972] 9492/73 Headings G1D and G1L Actuating means comprises a resilient sleeve 2 having one end closed and arranged for receiving an actuating stem 4, the sleeve 2 having two opposed longitudinally extending walls which merge to form two longitudinal edges contained in a longitudinally extending plane, each wall bowing outwardly from the plane and the angle between inner surfaces of the wall adjacent each edge being substantially less than 180 degrees when the sleeve is unstressed, the sleeve 2 being mounted in a chamber so that, in use, a change in volume of a medium, e.g. liquid, which may be due to a change in pressure or temperature, in the chamber causes the walls to approach each other by bending at the edges. The shape of the stem preferably corresponds in cross-section to that of the unstressed sleeve, the shape being as shown in Fig. 4. Portions A are arcuate, portions B being linear or slightly curved, the ratio b/f being preferably 0.4. The angle X is 15-120 degrees. Each edge of the sleeve may be curved in cross-section, and the sleeve and actuating stem may taper longitudinally towards the closed end of the sleeve.
