Abstract
1411855 Elastomer compositions PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO 9 Feb 1973 [11 Feb 1972] 6625/73 Headings C3P and C3Q [Also in Division E1] A soil binding composition comprises an oil in water emulsion in which the oil phase comprises a solution of an oil soluble elastomer in an oil or oil mixture, said oil or oil mixture having an aromatic oil content of at least 50% by weight and a viscosity of 1000 to 5000 centipoises at 77‹ F. The elastomer may be natural rubber, styrene-butadiene copolymer or block copolymer or cis- or trans-polyisoprene. The composition may also contain a chlorinated hydrocarbon or a coumarone-indene resin. In the example a mixture of a butadiene styrene elastomer, xylene, trichloroethylene, a phenol extracted oil, a SO 2 extract oil, a solid resin and an alkyl phenolethylene oxide condensate was heated till all the components were dissolved and dispersed in a mixture of water, methanol, an emulsifier and HCl.
