Abstract

1411833 Independent rear suspensions DAIMLER-BENZ AG 2 Nov 1973 [3 Nov 1972] 51063/73 Heading B7D In an indpendent rear suspension comprising suspension arms 2 connected to a bearer member 1 which is resiliently connected to the vehicle body by two forward mountings 16 and by one rearward mounting 17 located on a differential housing 6 rigidly attached to the member 1, a torsion bar spring 10 which supplements coil springs acting on the arms 2 is fixed at its centre with respect to the member 1 and connected at its ends to the arms 2. The torsion bar spring 10 is mounted at its centre in bearings 12 carried by the differential housing 6 and located on opposite sides of an arm 14 through which the spring 10 is adjustably pre-stressed by means of a screw 15 or a remotely-controlled servo device. Arms 11 integral with the torsion bar spring 10 are connected by links 9 to the arms 2, and resilient guide means 19 connect the spring 10 to the vehicle body.
