Abstract
1411784 Mechanical switches LUCAS ELECTRICAL CO Ltd 16 Feb 1973 [29 Feb 1972 13 June 1972] 9181/72 and 27538/72 Heading H1N In an electric switch having an actuating arm 115a, Fig. 13, pivotable about two mutually perpendicular axes 116 and horizontal transverse axis (not shown) a contact carrier 120 is slidable in a plane (vertical) which is substantially parallel to said axes for interconnection of selected fixed terminals 181-5, the carrier 120 having an edge 13 engaged by a projection 115b of the arm 115a and inclined to one of the planes of movement (horizontal) of the arm 115a whereby movement of the arm 115a in either direction causes sliding movement (vertical) of the carrier 120. In the embodiment shown, applied to a control lever for a vehicle windscreen wiper having fast and slow speeds and on and park positions on and off the windscreen, the carrier 120 is moved to any of four vertical positions as determined by roller 115b engaged in detent notches on edge 31. A gate (not shown) is provided whereby in one position only, the arm 115a may be tilted upwards against the action of return spring 132 to move the carrier 120 between the first and second positions only. At each position terminal blades 182-185 engage a conductive plate 121 through selected apertures 186 in an insulating cover-plate 122. In modifications the edge 131 may be a straight incline and the lever 115a provided with detents engaged by a spring loaded ball. The contact carrier assembly 120 may alternatively comprise a double-sided printed circuit board or may comprise a board having a thick contact plate (72), Fig. 12 (not shown) of stepped form on one face; raised ridges (77) being provided above and below the steps whereby the fixed contact springs 182- 185 slide on surfaces which are flush with the face of the plate 72.
