Abstract
1411661 Candida antiserum AJINOMOTO CO Inc 27 March 1973 [4 July 1972] 14778/73 Heading A5B An anti-serum for serological identification of pathogenic species of Candida is prepared by (a) separating cell wall mannan from a yeast having at least one antigen factor in common with Candida albicans, (b) bonding said mannan to a carrier protein alien to yeasts to produce a haptan-carrier complex, said mannan constituting the hapten in said complex, (c) parenterally administering said complex to a warm-blooded animal in an amount sufficient to induce an anti-serum which contains antibodies specific to said yeast in the blood of the animal and (d) harvesting said blood. The yeast may be C. albicans, C. tropicalis, C. pseudotropicalis, Kluyveromyces fragilis, C. guilliermondi, C. parakrusei, Metschnikowia pulcherrima, Pichia fermentans or Toruopsis glabrata. The protein may be bovine gamma-globulin. The mannan may be bonded to the protein by reaction with a polychlorinated triazine or with bromoacetyl bromide. The hapten-protein complex may be administered intravenously to a rabbit. The fibrinogen and corpuscles may be removed from the harvested blood to produce the antiserum. Some of the antibody factors may be removed from the antiserum by treatment with a yeast.
