1411405 Detergents containing polyelectrolytes MARATHON OIL CO 20 Nov 1972 [12 Jan 1972] 53443/72 Heading C5D A detergent composition comprises a surfactant and an isocyanurate-based polyelectrolyte having a structure formed of the units wherein R is a divalent hydrocarbon or substituted hydrocarbon radical, e.g. as illustrated in the formulµ of Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) ; X is H, a metal or a quaternary NH 4 radical; A is isocyanate (-NCO), urethane (-NHCO 2 R<SP>1</SP>), urea (-NHCONHR<SP>1</SP>), amino (-NH 2 , -NHR<SP>1</SP> or -N(R<SP>1</SP>) 2 ), wherein R<SP>1</SP> is a monovalent- or substituted monovalent-hydrocarbon radical; M is zero or 1 to 400; N is 1 to 10,000; provided that there are no N-to-N direct bonds, no A-to-A direct bonds, no N-to-A direct bonds and no R-to-R direct bonds. The detergent composition may contain (A) 2 to 20% wt. of the isocyanurate-based electrolyte, (B) 2 to 70% wt. of a surfactant, (C) 0 to 70% wt. of a phosphate builder, (D) 0-40% wt. of a silicate builder, (E) 0-15% wt. of an anti-redeposition agent, (F) 0-40% of inorganic builder other than (C) and (D), and (G) 0 to 40% wt. of sodium citrate, sodium tartrate, sodium gluconate or a mixture thereof. Preferably phosphates including polyphosphates are absent. The compositions are particularly useful for laundering and dishwashing. The polyelectrolytes have sequestrant and soil anti-redeposition properties.
