Abstract
1411361 Change speed gearing REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT and AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT 11 Jan 1974 [11 Jan 1973] 01333/74 Heading F2D In an epicyclic gear-box comprising an intermediate partition 18 fixed in the casing 17 and providing oil ways and a bearing 19 for a freewheel device 20, a bell-housing 39 for a multidisc brake 15<SP>1</SP> is locked against rotation in the housing, e.g. by projections 40, is secured to the partition 18 by bolts 46, and houses an annular piston 43 slidable in a member 49 clamped between the bell-housing and the partition. The piston is hydraulically operated to apply the brake and has radial projections 43<SP>1</SP> engaged by return springs 42. The brake 15<SP>1</SP> arrests a drum 34 which is fast with a sun-wheel 10<SP>1</SP>. This sunwheel may alternatively be connected through the drum 34 and a clutch 14<SP>1</SP> to a drum 30 fast with an input shaft 4. A second clutch 14 is operative to connect a second sun-wheel 10 with the input shaft. An internal ring gear 13 constitutes the output member of the gear-box and meshes with planets 11<SP>1</SP> in mesh with the sunwheel 10<SP>1</SP>, other planets 11 also mounted on the same carrier 12 as the planets 11<SP>1</SP> meshing with the sun-wheel 10. A brake 15, which may be mounted similarly to the brake 15<SP>1</SP>, coacts with the carrier 12. In a modification the partition 18 is of smaller outer diameter and retained, e.g. by force fit, within an outer ring formed with annular chambers for the pistons which actuate the brakes 15, 15<SP>1</SP>.
