Abstract

1411184 Enzyme inhibitors BEHRING- WERKE AG 8 Jan 1973 [8 Jan 1972] 959/73 Heading C3H [Also in Division A5] Polypeptides obtainable from sea-anemones are polyvalent isoinhibitors of enzymes, including the proteinases and esterases of blood cells and plasma, and they have molecular weights in the range 5500-7000, isoelectric points of from pH 6.0 to 9.5, and the following amino acid composition: aspartic acid (6 residues), threonine (1), serine (3-5), glutamic acid (4-5), proline (2-3), glycine (6-7), alanine (2), cysteine (6), valine (4), isoleucine (1-2), leucine (2-3), tyrosine (3), phenylalanine (2-3), lysine (3-4), histidine (1-2) and arginine (5-7). The specification discloses the amino acid profiles and molecular weights of four particular polypeptides fractionated from the mixture of polypeptides obtained by extracting sea anemones of the species (Anemonia sulcata, precipitating the extract and enriching the precipitate all in known manner. The fractionation is carried out on a carboxymethyl cellulose column at a weakly alkaline pH value. A linear gradient of a triethanolamine/hydrochloric acid/sodium chloride mixture and a triethanolamine/hydrochloric acid mixture, is used as eluant.
