Abstract

1410897 Coaxial cables NORTHERN ELECTRIC CO Ltd 14 Feb 1973 [14 Feb 1972] 7240/73 Heading H1A A method of adjusting the impedance of a disc-insulated coaxial cable being manufactured comprises altering the spacing between successive insulating discs from one uniform value to another according to a predetermined formula relating change of impedance to change of spacing, the necessary alteration being determined by measuring the impedance of a first length, and being applied by controlling the spacing of discs during the manufacture of a subsequent length. Apparatus for varying the spacing of insulating discs includes a pair of applicator wheels 18, 18<SP>1</SP> having uniformly-spaced retaining teeth 20, 20<SP>1</SP> which advance slotted discs 16 towards the moving conductor 12, and means for varying the angular velocity v of the discs relative to the linear velocity v 0 of the conductor.
