Abstract
1410040 Making mosquito coils FUMAKILLA Ltd 10 Oct 1972 [8 Nov 1971 (2)] 46723/72 Heading B5A [Also in Division A5] A method of making mosquito coils comprises feeding powdered ingredients of a coil base into a mould, hot pressing the powdered ingredients in the absence of added water or binder at a temperature of 100-180‹ C. under a pressure of 500-1500 kg. 0 cm.<SP>2</SP> to form a coil base and thereafter applying an insecticide to the surface of the moulded coil base. The period of pressing may comprise 0À5-60 sees. The powdered ingredients may comprise a first combustible material with a relatively high material content of resin, e.g. chrysanthemum flowers, sunflower blooms, Chinese mild vetch flowers, hop flowers, bamboo leaves, fern leaves or dried draffs of such flowers and/or leaves and a second combustible material with a relatively low natural content of resin, e.g. wood flours, paper or dried pulp. The insecticide may be applied by spraying or dipping. The insecticide may consist of chrysanthemum acid ester derivatives, organochloro insecticidal compounds, pyrethrum extract, pyrethrine, arethrine and alpha-benzene hexachloride in a carrier such as benzene, toluene, xylene, hexane, heptane, octane and cyclohexane. A polymeric coating may be applied with or subsequently to the insecticide to form a protective film on the coil. The coating may comprise a terpenic polymer or a natural resin, several examples of each being given.
