Abstract
1409778 Clutch control SPERRY RAND Ltd 15 Aug 1973 [29 Sept 1972] 39571/73 Divided out of 1408055 Heading F2L [Also in Division G5] An external drive motor is used to drive a tape transport of a data recorder in a fast replay mode and is connected to drive the same element, e.g. a capstan, as is driven by a motor of the recorder in the recording mode via a clutch which is disengaged from the recorder motor by connection of the external motor thereto, and re-engaged on disconnection. As shown, a pulley 7 belt-driving a capstan (4), Fig. 1 (not shown), of a flight recorder is driven at normal speed during recording by a recorder motor 9, and at fast speed during replay by an attachment 18 which is inserted through a casing aperture 28 and is driven by the replay motor (not illustrated). The pulley 7 is carried on motor shaft 8 by ball races 12, a driving connection between pulley and shaft being normally provided by a spring-loaded ball 13 in abore 14 of the pulley and engaging a recess 16 of a disc 17 keyed to the shaft 8. The attachment 18 includes a sleeve 22 which slides over the disc 17 and disengages the ball 13 from the recess 16, and a spring-loaded plunger 26 which engages a recess 27 of the pulley to drive the same.
