Abstract
1409741 Nitrogen-containing organopolysiloxanes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 Jan 1973 [7 Feb 1972] 5494/72 Heading C3T [Also in Division C5] Organopolysiloxanes (A) containing one or more groups of the formulµ with or without a proportion of groups of the formula NH 2 (CH 2 ) 3 Si #, the remaining Si valencies not attached to oxygen in the polysiloxane chain being occupied by monovalent substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon groups with or without a proportion of hydrogen, are prepared by reacting allylamine with an organopolysiloxane containing Si-H groups, preferably of the formula in the presence of a catalyst, wherein R is a monovalent substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon group; preferably methyl, phenyl of 3,3,3-trifluoropropyl, α=1-50, z=0-500. Preferred catalysts are platinum catalysts containing combined Pt, e.g. bis-(diethylsulphide) platinous chloride. The organopolysiloxanes (A) can be used to produce organopolysiloxanes (B) containing both gamma-amino-propyl and OR<SP>1</SP> groups where R<SP>1</SP> is a monovalent hydrocarbon group, hydrogen, a monovalent hydrocarbon group substituted by NR<SP>11</SP> 2 groups, an oxyalkylene group of the formula (C n H 2n O) c R<SP>11</SP> where n = 2 or 3 and c is 1-30, or a NR<SP>11</SP> 2 group where R<SP>11</SP> is hydrogen or a monovalent hydrocarbon group by reacting the organopolysiloxane (A) with an hydroxyl containing compound of the formula R<SP>1</SP>OH, optionally in the presence of a catalyst such as piperidine, diethylhydroxylamine, KOH or stannous octoate. Suitable OH-containing compounds R<SP>1</SP>OH include water, methanol, ethanol, butanol, isobutanol, benzyl alcohol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, ethanolamine, N,N-diethyl-ethanolamine, N,N - diethylhydroxylamine or a compound of the formula R<SP>11</SP>(OC n H 2n ) c OH. The organopolysiloxanes (B) may be represented by the average general formula where x=0À1-5, y= 1-100, z=0-500 and d=0-49. Uses.-Organopolysiloxanes (B) can be used as a detergent resistant additive in wax-containing polishes examples of which are given; as sizing agents for organic and glass fibres; as emulsifying agents; and as waterproofing agents.
