Abstract

1409596 Sponging pottery JAMES SADLER & SONS Ltd 3 April 1974 [4 April 1973] 16019/73 Heading C1J Apparatus for sponging ceramic articles comprises an endless belt, having a foam sponge surface 22, which is carried by the rollers 16 and 18 which are mounted one above the other and means for moistening the spongy material and squeezing excess moisture and clay fragments from the sponge. The roller 16 is driven by the motor 12 so that a ceramic article 32 (e.g. a teapot), which has been formed in a mould and removed from the mould but which is still in the unfired clay state, can be sponged using the downwardly moving portion of the belt whilst held by the operator. The belt suitably comprises a backing 20 of natural or synthetic rubber and a detachable sponge facing 22.
