Abstract

1409536 Coatings IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES LTD 22 Jan 1973 [10 Feb 1972] 6391/72 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] Substrates are coated with a two component polyurethane lacquer comprising (1) a polymeric polyol component which is either a polyester derived from hexanetriol adipic and phthalic acid or a polyester derived from 1, 3 butane-diol, hexanetriol and adipic acid, and (2) a polyisocyanate component which is a mixture of (a) an adduct prepared by reacting 3-isocyanato-methyl-3, 5, 5-trimethyl cyclohexyl isocyanate with trimethylolpropane using dibutyltin-dilaurate as catalyst, and (b) an isocyanurate polyisocyanate prepared by polymerising a solution of tolylene diisocyanate using calcium octoate as catalyst and phenol as cocatalyst. The two components (1) and (2) are applied to the tin plate as a solution in methyl isobutyl ketone/cyclohexanone containing dibutyltin dilaurate as catalyst for the isocyanatehydroxyl reaction. After drying in air at 25‹C for 60 minutes hard clear films which are resistant to yellowing are obtained. Specified substrates are tin plate, wood, rubber, metal, glass, fabrics, leather, linoleum, paper and polymers such as polyamides and polyvinyl chloride.
