Abstract

1409128 Transportable refuse-press container F NEYMEYER 24 July 1973 [30 Nov 1972] 35208/73 Heading B8C A refuse press comprises a transportable container 1 closed on all sides with a rear discharge flap 12 hinged, at 15, to the upper edge of a discharge opening, and a pressing device in the form of a pressing plate 16 driven by at least one hydraulic cylinder unit 29, 30 affixed to the container 1 and situated underneath a feed orifice 19 the container being separable from a motor 37 for the cylinder unit, or units, 29, 30 by means of a releasable coupling 32, Fig. 3, and the feed orifice 19 being situated in the discharge flap 12 and provided with a closing flap 18 which is hinged at 17, to its lower edge, is operable by a further hydraulic unit, or units 21, 22, and forms, in conjunction with the pressing plate 16, a combined unit constituting the discharge flap 12. As shown, the discharge opening of the container 1 slopes downwardly and rearwardly along the terminal side-wall edges 10, 11, the discharge flap 12, with side plates 13, 14 adjacent the interior of the side walls 2, 3 being pivotally mounted on a shaft 15 for movement by an hydraulic cylinder 24 from the position I, as shown in Fig. 2, to a discharging position II shown in dotted lines. The lower half of the flap 12 is formed as the pressing plate 16, the upper half being formed by the closing flap 18 which is pivotally mounted on a shaft 17 between the side plates 13, 14 and which is movable by the hydraulic motors 20, 21 from a closed position in alignment with the pressing plate 16 to an open position, Figs. 1, 2, where it abuts a transverse stop-rod 20 to form the feed orifice 19. The discharge flap 12, i.e. the pressing plate 16, is movable to-and-fro between positions I and III, Fig. 2, by the hydraulic motors 28, 30, the piston-rods 28, 28 of which are detachably coupled, by bolts 26, 27 to the pressing plate 16. An ejector flap 43 located wi hin the container 1 beneath the upper 5, and adjacent the end wall 7, of the container is mounted on a shaft 44 and is rotatable, in a downward direction, by means of an hydraulic cylinder 45 and a lever 46. The rear extension of the container floor 4 is provided with an insert 4 which is shaped to follow the arc presented by the movement of the pressing plate 16. The hydraulic cylinders 29, 30 and 21, 22 are connected by quick-release couplings 32, 33 and flexible couplings 34, 35, respectively, to a separate, mobile, or stationary, hydraulic working unit 36, Fig, 3, comprising a pump 37, an oil container 38, a relief valve 39, and a return conduit 41 with a filter 40. As shown in Fig. 3 an electromagnetic valve 48, controlled by limit switches, not shown, regulates the too- and-fro movements of the pistons 28, 28 of the hydraulic cylinders 29, 30, the two hydraulic cylinders 21, 22 of the closing flap 18 being regulated by a manually controllable reversing valve 43. The two hydraulic units 24, 45 are not energized by the hydraulic unit 36, but are connected, by flexible conduits and quickrelease couplings to an hydraulic system, belonging to the vehicle unit itself, and which can be actuated simultaneously by a manuallycontrollable reversing valve 50. In operation, by actuating the reversing valve 43 the closing flap 18 is opened to form a feed hopper for refuse. In order to ensure that the piston 24 can follow the oscillatory movements of the discharge flap 12 the pressure conduit 51, Fig. 3, is connected by a conduit 59 to two non-return valves 52, 53 which are capable of being unlocked in a ring circuit 55-58. The flap 18 is preferably closed before each pressing operation of the pressing plate. As soon as the container 1 is filled the feed orifice 19 is closed by the flap 18 and the hydraulic cylinders 29, 30 and 21, 22 are disconnected, by the quick-release coupling 32, 33, from the hydraulic unit 36 whereupon the container is loaded on a vehicle and transported, e.g. to a refuse-incinerator or refuse dump. The bolts 26, 27 are disconnected from the discharge flap 12 which is then pivoted upwards to position II as the reversing valve 50 is manipulated to lower the ejector flap 43 at the same time. The container 1 is tilted so that the refuse slides out easily. The side walls of the container may diverge slightly towards each other in the rearward direction. In a modification, Figs. 4-7 (not shown), blocking fingers 62-64 are adapted to be moved downwardly into the upper region of the discharge opening to prevent refuse from dropping therefrom.
