Abstract
1408395 Profile gauging apparatus BRITISH STEEL CORP 5 Dec 1972 [6 Dec 1971] 56428/71 Heading G1M A partially solidified strand of cast steel 8, Fig. 1, withdrawn from a mould 6 by rollers 10 is passed (for profile examination) between sets of optical apparatus 16, 18 comprising projection units 20, 22 on opposite sides. Two collection units 26, 28, Fig. 2, receive light from the strand and by means of a lens 54 form an image of the illuminated area on a television camera 34 connected to a monitor screen 36 which shows an image 58 in undistorted profile. The single screen 36 allows the image formed by either 16 or 18 to be shown so that the crosssectional profile is continuously examined at either of the positions shown in Fig. 1. information of profile variation may be used to control production.
