Abstract

1408303 Credit card checker SAABSCANIA AB 5 Sept 1972 41197/72 Heading G4M A credit card checker has a plurality of terminals each containing a keyboard entering data into a shift register, an indicator displaying the entered data, and if required a card reader, and a central unit containing a memory holding e.g. identities of invalid credit cards. A call key on the keyboard sends a signal via a telephone line to the central unit which returns a signal to an indicator lamp when connection is made. A number is entered, stored, decoded to binary form and serially transmitted. The number may be transmitted twice or may contain redundant information or a parity bit for error detection purposes. The number is received at the central unit, error checked, e.g. by reading the duplicated number into two registers and comparing them and the number is compared with data serially read from the store in the central unit. If the equality does not occur (e.g. the card is valid), a green lamp is lit at the terminal, otherwise a red lamp is lit. A further lamp is used to indicate that the received number is incorrect. Each number received at the central unit can be printed.
