Abstract

1408118 Jointing; bending MAINETTI SpA 2 Nov 1973 [17 Nov 1972] 50931/73 Headings B3V and B3E An automatic machine for inserting metal hooks into the plastics bodies of clothes hangers has a horizontal work table 1, Figs. 1, 2, for supporting the bodies 3, and an assembly for inserting heated nails into the bodies (the nails subsequently being bent to form hooks). Each nail is forced into a hole in an associated body, causing the plastics material to melt and flow around threads on the end of the nail. The nails arrive on a guide 13 ,Fig. 2, and are successively fed by a reciprocating slide down a shoot 27 to a pair of electrodes which heat their threaded ends. Each nail is then forced by a striker 20 into a hanger 3 supported by abutments 4 and 5 and a pneumatically raisable stop 6 The table is indexed until the hanger arrives at a bending station, Fig. 8, where the nail is bent due to contact with a mandrel 35. The free end of the nail is then bent around the mandrel by a rotating tool 36, Fig. 9. A stop 37 shapes the extreme end of the hook. The bending assembly is lowered by a cam mechanism before the table is again indexed. An electric motor drives the table, the bending assembly, and a series of microswitches for synchronizing the feeding, inserting and bending and indexing operations. Alternatively, synchronization may be controlled by electronic programme, punched card, or magnetic memory.
