1407344 Cutting tools W MIHIC 16 Apri 1973 [18 April 1972 2 April 1973] 18241/73 Heading B3B A cutting tool comprises a holder 1 which is adapted to receive a cutting insert 2 which is securable in a recess in the holder by pin means 13 which has a two armed portion 6 and 7, the portion 6 engages in a hole 8 in the insert and the portion 7 is engaged by clamping means 34, actuated by a screw 5, which by causing a pivoting action of the arms 6, 7 urges the insert on to abutment with a shoulder 30 on the holder. The pin 13 extends into a bore 14 and has an oblique slot 22 at the juncture of the arms 6, 7, to permit flexibility. In addition to the pin clamping action further clamping of the insert is achieved by a bridge clamp 40 which overlies the top of the insert to urge the insert into the recess. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 two bridge clamping portions 37, 38 are provided one above the other. The insert is located on a mounting plate on the recess bottom. The action of the pin arms 6 and 7 and the bridge clamp is produced sequentially whereby tightening of the screw 5 initially causes the insert to be urged against the abutment 30 and thereafter by continued tightening of the screw causes the bridge clamp to additionally secure the insert and thereby obtaining correct abutment between the insert and recess and more uniform distribution of the clamping forces between the clamp and arm.
