Abstract
1405613 Shearing SIEMAG SIEGENER MASCHINENBAU GmbH 19 July 1972 [21 Aug 1971] 33684/72 Heading B3W A device for severing wire, for use in a coil forming station, comprises a vertical shaft 2, at least three guides (four guides 7 as shown) pivotally mounted to pivot about axes parallel with the central axis of the shaft between a first, broken line position in which they do not occlude the shaft and a second, full line position in which they define an aperture, entraining wire dropping through the shaft as they move from the first to the second position to guide it into the aperture, and a shear 13, 14 near the aperture. The plates 7 and levers 10 are respectively pivoted by hydraulic cylinder units 8 and 11, the levers 10 passing below the plates 7. One lever 10 carries the fixed blade 13 and the blade 14 reciprocated by a fluid cylinder 15, the edge of the blade 13 being aligned with the edge of one plate 7 in its second position. In operation, wire is dropped through the shaft 2 on to a coiling mandrel (3), Fig. 1 (not shown). When the coil reaches a predetermined weight or size fluid cylinders 8 are actuated to move the plates 7 to the second position. Wire continuing to be delivered to the shaft 2 forms a coil on the plates 7. The cylinders 11 are actuated and the levers 10 sweep along the slot 12 between the plates to centre the length of wire joining the coil forming on the plates to the coil on the mandrel, which length is then severed by the blades 13, 14. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), an articulated frame (29) carries fingers (26) with tapered ends (27) which are movable, by a fluid cylinder (30), to extend into the shaft through slots in the shaft wall. Partly interleaved guides 31 are mounted below the shaft. In use, the fingers are pivoted into the passage to support wire being delivered during shearing and the guides 31 are moved together to locate the wire for blades (38), (39) on a lever 37 pivotally mounted in one of the guides.
