Abstract

1405216 Tuning cavity resonators JOHNSON SERVICE CO 22 Aug 1973 [30 Aug 1972] 39827/73 Heading H1W [Also in Division H3] A microwave cavity oscillator is tuned by means of a movable dielectric plunger on which is mounted a voltage variable capacitor. An oscillator comprises cavity 2, Fig. 1 in block 1, oscillations being generated by means of a diode 3: connection to the inner face of diode 3 is by means of a press fit cap 4 connected by way of a conductor 7 bent to form an inductor, to a metal disc 8 which is insulated from the block 1 by dielectric washer 9. The disc 8 is held in position by a plug comprising an inner conducting member 10 and a threaded outer member separated by insulation 11. Oscillator tuning is by means of a dielectric cylinder 13, Fig. 2: this is threaded at its upper end for attachment to conducting cylinder 18 which is threaded both internally and externally. A further cylindrical conducting member 21 is threaded into the top of member 18 and supports by means of a tubular insulator 27 a conductor 25 at the lower end of which is a socket 21 forming an attachment for the varactor diode 22. The lower end of varactor diode 28 is engaged by a clip 29 carried by coupling loop 30, the other end of which connects to the member 18. The assembly is carried by an internally and externally threaded bush 20, being locked into position after adjustment by means of a nut 20a.
