Abstract

1405080 Reduction of organic lead content in aqueous solutions ETHYL CORP 7 March 1974 [23 March 1973 9 July 1973] 10338/74 Heading C1C A process for reducing the soluble organic lead content of an aqueous solution comprises (a) treating the solution by contacting it with Fe (II) ions and a water-soluble borohydride salt and (b) separating the resulting insoluble leadcontaining product. Additionally the aqueous solution may be contacted with a water-soluble high MW anionic polyelectrolyte, e.g. acrylamide polymer. The process is useful for treatina effluent from alkyl lead manufacture. The pH is 9 to 11, and a temperature of 15-50‹ C. is preferred. Organic lead concentrations are reduced to less than 1 ppm.
