Abstract

1404835 Attaching bag handles KAO SOAP CO Ltd 27 July 1972 35156/72 Heading A4G Handle strips 15 of substantially the shape shown in Fig. 7 are attached by their end portions, e.g. adhesively to the top of a box-like bag. The intermediate fold may be retained, prior to use, by an adhesive, which is broken when the handle is to be used. These handles are formed and attached to bag bodies by a machine as shown in Fig. 3. Tape 15 is a fed from roll 15 via rollers 17, 29, 32, 18, 19, 20 to roller 21. This has two similar sections each having notch 25, and, inside the roller, presser member 26. Co-operating with this roller is wheel 23 which carries a projecting peripheral part 70, a projection 24 for extending into the notch 25, and a cutter 22 for the tape. Rotation of roller 21 and wheel 23 forms a handle as in Fig. 7. This rotation is intermittent, and roller 19 is arranged to move along a slot as shown to take up the tape which is continuously fed by roller pair 29, 32. When roller 19 reaches the end of its travel it actuates a micro-switch to activate solenoid 30 to lift roller 29 and so stop the feed of tape. The formed handles are attached by the roller 23 to bag bodies which have previously been coated with adhesive in suitable places. Reinforcing patches may be stuck over the ends of the handle which is attached to the bag body.
