1404739 Semi-conductor devices; printed circuits PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 27 March 1974 13557/74 Addition to 1368226 Headings H1K and H1R [Also in Division H2] In a capacitor-diode voltage multiplier as claimed in Specification 1,368,226, the capacitors are formed by deposition of electrodes 33, 34, 37, 39 on coplanar plates 31, 32 of ceramic dielectric, the diodes being located in one or more blocks 25 ... 29 occupying the space between the facing edges of the two plates 31, 32. The invention is applicable to a voltage tripler for supplying EHT for the cathode-ray tube of a TV receiver from line flyback pulses. Each diode 22 (Fig. 2) may have its leads soldered or welded to conducting rods 23 having faces lying flush with a block 24 of epoxy resin. Alternatively, as in Fig. 6 (not shown) five diodes are wired in series and connected to tinned terminal pads arranged on the surface of a single elongated resin block. The diodecontaining blocks 25 ... 29 may be bonded to the edges of barium titanate plates 31, 32, connections being effected by leads 41 ... 46. Fig. 4, shows an arrangement in which a single block 61 containing the series arrangement of diodes is bonded to plates 31<SP>1</SP>, 32<SP>1</SP>, the capacitor electrodes and diode connections 33<SP>1</SP> ... 45<SP>1</SP> then being formed by photo-lithographic, vacuum deposition or silk screening. A current limiting resistor (Fig. 7, not shown) may be deposited on an extension of plate 32<SP>1</SP>.
