Abstract
140,419. Commonwealth Steel Co., (Assignees of Pflager, H. M.). Jan. 5, 1918, [Convention date]. Springs, arrangement of, and mounting bodies on.-A bogie truck pivoted to the underframe has compensating devices comprising springs normally under compression for distributing the load on the journals when the supporting springs are released from their load carrying functions. The side truck frames 5 are shaped to receive the journal boxes 6 and are pivoted on king- bolts and connected together by a tie-rod 9. The lower spring abutment 10 has bosses 10<a> to centre the springs and has a convex lower face engaging a concave part on the frame. The upper abutment 14 has bosses 14<a> and is splined on a tubular member 12<a> attached by rivets to the bolster 13 and adapted to receive a tubular extension on the lower abutment. The abutment 14 normally rests against a shoulder on the member 12a but is acted on by supplementary springs 15 so that in the event of the springs 11 being relieved of their load the abutment moves downward to bring the supplementary springs into operation.
