Abstract

1403878 Continuous casting; cutting by fusion GEGA GES FUR GASETECHNIK LOTZ KG 27 March 1974 [30 March 1973] 13571/74 Headings B3F and B3V [Also in Division G1] A continuously cast hot strand 35 rotates a hollow measuring roll 34 mounted in bearings 30 located in a hollow pillar carriage 26 vertically movable through a roller guide 24. Cooling water is ducted through the pillar 26 to exit via a pipe 29, and the water is also ducted through and around a pipe 41 extending through the roller shaft 36 into the roller body. The coolant runs into a discharge duct supporting one end of the roller shaft. The measuring roll transmits electric pulses by mechanical, photo-electric or inductive means to a pulse counter which after a pre-selected number of pulses and pre-selected length of strand gives a signal which switches on a parting-off device, e.g. a flame cutter moving with the strand.
