Abstract

1401804 RTV silicone rubber compositions containing complexes of Ti, Zr or Al IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 12 Feb 1973 [25 Feb 1972] 8862/72 Heading C3T An RTV elastomer-forming composition comprises (A) 100 p.b.w. of a linear organopolysiloxane curable to an elastomer, (B) 0À5-20 p.b.w. of a cross-linking agent (a) of formula wherein R represents an organic group as in (A) and R<SP>1</SP> is an aminoalkoxy or aminoaroxy group, or (b) of average unit formula having at least 2 groups Y in the molecule, wherein Y is a group reactive with reactive groups in (A), x is less than 2, y is more than 2, and x + y is 4 or less, (C) 0À1-5 p.b.w. of a curing catalyst for the reaction of (A) and (B) which is not a complex of Ti, Zr or Al, and (D) 1-20 p.b.w. of a complex of Ti, Zr or Al obtained by reaction of an alcoholate or phenolate of Ti, Zr or Al, or a partial hydrolysate thereof, with 1-4 moles, per gm. atom of metal, of an alpha or beta diketone. In examples 1-4 a base composition is made from 80 p.b.w. of polydimethylsiloxane diol of 10<SP>4</SP> cP/25‹ C., 20 p.b.w. of silica flour, 5 p.b.w. of colloidal silica and 1 p.b.w. TiO 2 ; to this are added 2 or 6 p.b.w. of a complex from tetrabutoxytitanium and 2 moles of ethyl acetoacetate, 4 p.b.w. of ethyl polysilicate or vinyl triethoxysilane, and 1 or 2 p.b.w. of dibutyltin dilaurate. In Examples 5 and 6, otherwise similar, the base composition contains a polydimethylsiloxane diol of 10<SP>5</SP> cP/25‹ C., a trimethylsilyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane of 300 cP/25‹ C. and CaCO 3 .
