Abstract

1401430 Coated paper WIGGINS TEAPE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT LTD 23 Nov 1972 [20 Dec 1971] 59082/71 Heading B2E An electrostatic imaging paper is produced by applying to an electrically conductive base paper on one side thereof an aqueous dispersion of a polymeric material the dispersion having a minimum film-forming temperature of 30‹C or lower, and drying the coated paper to form thereon a continuous coating of dielectric material. Preferably the dielectric material coating contains an inorganic pigment material such as titanium dioxide, barium sulphate, silica, clay or zinc oxide. A second aqueous dispersion of polymeric material may be applied over the dried first aqueous dispersion coating. The second aqueous dispersion preferably has a minimum film-forming temperature higher than 30‹C. Suitable polymeric materials are polyolefins, substituted polyolefins, condensation polymers, polyesters and phenolic resins. A pigment dispersant, e.g. the ammonium salt of a polycarboxylic acid may be present in the aqueous dispersion. In the examples styrene-acrylic polymers are used.
