Abstract
1400734 Making pipes PONT-A-MOUSSON SA 23 June 1972 [1 July 1971] 29697/72 Heading F2P Apparatus for producing tubes comprises an axially stationary mandrel 1, means 19 for depositing thermosetting material around the mandrel and means 12 for withdrawing the formed tube from the mandrel, the mandrel having internal heating means for hardening the thermosetting material. An auxiliary polymerization stove 20 may also be provided. In the embodiment shown the mandrel is rotated via a spindle 7 and is divided into three coaxial passageways 37, 38, 39 by tubes 32, 33. Hot fluid from a supply pipe 51 flows through central passageway 39 and is returned to pipe 52 through the outermost passageway 37. Compressed air is blown into passageway 38 which communicates via apertures 42, 43 with the surface of the mandrel, thus forming a film of air between the mandrel and the tube and reducing friction therebetween. A strip 23 of polyester film is wound on to the mandrel from reel 22 and its edges are welded by ultrasonic welding device 24. Reinforcing elements 26, e.g. filaments, rovings, mats &c. of glass, impregnated with resin from a tank 27, are then applied to the mandrel. A sectioning machine is provided to cut the tube into sections of the required length. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the mandrel is electrically heated.
