Abstract
1399958 Heat-sensitive bleach-out materials MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 12 Dec 1973 [13 Dec 1972] 57598/73 Heading G2C A heat-sensitive bleach-out material comprises a support coated with a layer of, or a self-supporting layer of a binder and a coloured p-quinone-imine which on heating in the presence of a reducing agent is bleached-out. Generally the reducing agent is in a separate layer containing a binder adjacent to the coloured layer but it may be in the same layer (less stable) or on a separate sheet. Specified p-quinone imines are of Formula:- wherein Ar is an aryl radical and R, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>1</SP><SP>1</SP> and R<SP>111</SP> are H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or amide and wherein adjacent R radicals may complete a fused carbo- or hetrocyclic ring. The reducing agent may be a hydroquinone or a mono-, di-, or trihydroxy benzene or stannous chloride. The material is imagewise exposed to heat to produce a bleach-out image; if the reducing agent is in a separate sheet it is contacted with the coloured material before exposure. Silica may be added to the reducing agent layer.
