Abstract

1399618 Selective printing DATA RECALL Ltd 1 June 1973 [22 June 1972] 29296/72 Heading B6F An automatic electric typewriter, able to record matter in an associated apparatus (not ,shown) and type out such recorded matter when played back, includes a deletion device for editing the recorded matter as it is played back. The device provides a visual indication in the edited typescript of the location of such deletions. As shown stop and skip keys 11, 12 control the power supply to the typewriter via leads 13, 14 and NAND gate 17. When a deletion is to be made keys 11, 12 are closed in that order so that inverter 18 outputs to flip-flop 19 which operates activation circuits 20, 21, 22. These circuits control respectively a dead key underline, a change to red ribbon and a recording inhibition. Thus a deletion is denoted by a red underlining and any new insertion, manually typed in will also be in red. The recording inhibitor ensures that if the edited copy is subsequently recorded the red underlining will not be recorded. Other marks, such as an asterisk or several letter spaces, may be used instead of red underlining.
