Abstract
1399508 Ultrasonic locating system RECOGNITION DEVICES Inc 8 Aug 1972 36908/72 Heading G4H [Also in Division H4] An ultrasonic locating system comprises means 11, 12 for generating a digital signal identifying a person to be located, fixed transceivers 14 responsive to the signal for generating a corresponding ultrasonic signal, portable pocket transceivers 21 which decode the ultrasonic signal from the nearest transceiver 14 to transmit thereto a recognition pulse if the transceiver 21 is being carried by the person being sought, and a display device 29, 30 responsive to a signal from that transceiver 14 receiving the recognition pulse to indicate the location of the person sought. Transceivers 14, 21 incorporate piezoelectric transducers 17, 18, 22 (the recognition pulse being ultrasonic), and a mercury switch 32 disconnects transceiver 21 from its power source 31 if it is not held vertical. The system may be located in one building (with a transceiver 14 in each room) or may be used to monitor rooms in remote buildings (Figs. 4-7, not shown). The system may continuously scan the building(s) and may be used to connect an outside caller with the telephone extension nearest the person being called. The indicating means 29, 30 may be a CRT display (Figs. 8, 9, not shown), or an indicator panel equipped with lights or light emitting diodes. Means 11, 12 and 29, 30 may be connected to the transceivers 14 by telephone lines 13 or, in one building, the existing wiring may be used; for remote buildings an RF system may be used (Figs. 5, 6). Remote buildings being monitored may incorporate an encoder (Figs. 4, 5) which receives the recognition pulse and transmits a signal to display 29, 30 identifying the building and the location therein of the person sought; alternatively each remote building may have its own display device which is photographed by a TV camera (Figs. 6, 7) which transmits the information for this building to the central display 29, 30.
