Abstract

1397743 Processing cake tobacco GALLAHER LTD 26 Sept 1973 [30 June 1972] 30808/72 Heading A2C A method of producing bar or tobacco flake comprises subjecting each preformed tobacco cake individually to heat and pressure and subsequently to positive cooling and pressure applied to the larger faces of the cake. The tobacco cake may be caused to travel through a sequence of stations including a loading station, a hot pressing station and a cold pressing station. The method may be affected by use of apparatus comprising automatic feed means e.g. conveyors 6, 7 which transport loose tobacco 9 to the top of a vibrating upright metering tube 10. Sensor 11 controls the height maximum and the base of tube 10 is fitted with an adjustable gate 12 which directs tobacco to the space between parallel horizontal conveyors 13, 14 of variable speed which determine cake thickness. A guillotine 18 may cut the cake proceeding from conveyors 13, 14 into individual cake 15A which are subsequently processed in cruciform devices (not shown) to effect the necessary heating, pressure and cooling.
