Abstract

1397620 Dyeing & printing textiles SANDOZ LTD 26 Sept 1972 [1 Oct 1971] 44393/72 Heading D1B Textile materials comprising a homopolymer or copolymer of acrylonitrile or of asymmetrical dicyanoethylene, a synthetic polyamide containing acid groups or a synthetic polyester containing acid groups are treated with a monovalent copper compound to reduce the affinity of the materials for basic dyes the material then being dyed or printed with a basic dye. The copper compound may be formed in situ by employing a water soluble divalent copper compound in conjunction with a reducing agent e.g. copper sulphate may be used with a sugar, a sulphite hydroxylamine or a salt thereof. Preferably the treatment is at pH 2-3 and the fibres so treated may be blended with untreated fibres formed into a carpet and dyed or printed with basic dyes.
