Abstract
1396589 Recording and playback; tape guides for autothreading MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 25 Sept 1972 44184/72 Heading G5R In apparatus for autothreading a tape 3 past a head drum 10 and transducer 18, the tape having a leader of greater width and rigidity than the tape, guides 5, 15 are formed with portions of a width (c), Fig. 3 (not shown), greater than the tape width but less than the leader width which thus constrain the leader, but not the tape, so that the leader is kept spaced from the transducers 8, 9, 18 to avoid damage thereto. As shown, leader guide 5 disposed around the drum 10 has a substantially C-shaped cross-section with an opening of width (c) facing the drum, while guide 15 at the exit end of the guide 5 also has a depression 14 of width (c). The tape 3 does not contact the central portion 28 of the guide 15. The guide 15 is rotary, but may be substituted by a stationary guide (32), Figs, 6, 7 (not shown), of semicylindrical form, with an arcuate depression (33) of width (c). The guides 5, 15 may be both mounted on an attachment member (40), Figs. 8-11 (not shown), the guide 5 being releasably clamped against a wall (42) thereof by an eccentric cam (44) rotatable by an arm (45).
