Abstract

1396527 Rotary filling machines SYBRON CORP 12 Sept 1972 [13 Jan 1972] 42372/72 Heading B8T In a rotary filling machine for flowable materials, the containers are tilted during filling, to prevent centrifugal forces from ejecting the material, and straightened up when the machine stops or when the containers are discharged. The containers 10 are held and tilted in upper and lower chucks 20, 21, pivoted to the filling wheel 14, and guide rails 48-49. One of the lower guide rails 46 and one of the outer rails 48 are attached to the pivoted ring segment 36 as are strips 32, 33, defining cam track 31. When the machine is started, the free end (39), Fig. 6 (not shown), of segment 36 is moved by cylinder (38), away from the fixed ring segment 35, thus moving a portion of the cam track 31 and movable guide rails 46, 48 away from the axis of rotation of filling wheel 14, the containers 10 moving above the pivoted segment 36 and being gradually tilted. When the machine stops cylinder (38), Fig. 6 (not shown), connecting ring segments 35 and 36, closes, closing gap (40) and brings cam track 31 into a circular configuration, thus straightening all the containers up. On completion of filling, the containers move off wheel 14 to discharge conveyer (16), Fig. 1 (not shown), and are gradually straightened up by rails 46, 48 and 49 and discharge guide (87), Fig. 11 (not shown), with which guides 48 and 49 form a three point contact with the containers to ensure positive straightening.
