Abstract
1396088 Secondary recovery from wells TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 28 Dec 1973 59958/73 Heading E1F Oil is recovered from a reservoir by injecting, through an injection well, an aqueous saline slug containing a mixture of a nonionic and an anionic surfactant, driving the slug through the reservoir by injecting an aqueous driving medium, and recovering the oil so displaced from a production well. The saline slug contains a salt of a monovalent cation, preferably sodium chloride, and a thickening agent. The nonionic surfactant may be an ethoxylated alkyl phenol, alcohol, thioether or amine, or a polymer or copolymer of ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide; the anionic surfactant may be a petroleum, alkyl aryl or alkyl sulphonate, an alkyl sulphate or a sulphosuccinate, or a sodium salt thereof. The driving medium is water or brine, which may be thickened. Before introduction of the slug the reservoir is injected with water or brine, thickened or not, or an aqueous solution of sodium sulphate, nitrate, hydroxide, silicate, phosphate or fluoride, or hydrofluoric acid or a quaternary ammonium salt.
