1395505 Fluidized bed dryers STRUTHERS SCIENTIFIC & INTERNATIONAL CORP 25 July 1972 [28 July 1971] 35527/71 Heading F4G [Also in Division B1] A process for removing a liquid from a liquidcontaining material, e.g. brine, using superheated steam comprises establishing a fluidized bed of the material, e.g. salt feeding the liquidcontaining material to the fluidized bed between the upper and lower parts thereof, passing superheated steam through the fluidized bed to remove the liquid therefrom, continuously removing liquid-free material from the fluidized bed, and preventing the steam in the fluidized bed from reaching saturation temperature. For example, in the Figure, superheated steam from 23 is used to evaporate brine sprayed from 16 into fluidized bed 13 to form salt which is discharged by screw 18. Steam may be recycled via 27 for superheating.
