Abstract

1395466 Wipers for vehicle head-lamp lenses, &c. ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 6 July 1973 [7 July 1972] 32405/73 Heading A4F A wiper assembly particularly for a vehicle headlamp lens, rear window, or rear-view mirror, has a wiper element 7 connected to a wiper arm 1 for movement about an axis extending in the wiping direction and about an axis parallel to the longitudinal direction of the element 7, which element is remembered by a spring strip 10 flexible transversely to the longitudinal direction of the element. The arm 1 and the element 7 are connected by a ball joint formed by a ball 14 secured to the wiper element 7 engaged in a spherical seating in a plastics member held between the walls of the channel-shaped wiper arm 1. The ball 14 is formed in two halves at the ends of clamping members 12, 13 secured together by rivets 18 to hold the rear portions 8 of the wiper element 7 with the aid of claws 16. In addition to permitting tilting of the wiper element 7 about the two axes above mentioned the ball joint permits limited pivoting about an axis at right angles to the wiping plane, e.g. when the element strikes a stop at the edge of the surface being wiped. Additionally the flexible spring strip 10 permits the wiper element to be bent at the end of a wiper stroke to conform to the periphery of the surface.
